ProModal® - combi-fiber providing softness and performance

For Lenzing 2008 is the Modal year of innovation. After presenting MicroModal® AIR in the spring of this year, another innovative Modal variant is now being launched on the market – ProModal®. Once again Lenzing is demonstrating its leading innovative power.
 

ProModal® - strategically significant
Lenzing AG is well-known as a Modal fiber manufacturer and as a long-term promoter and sole supplier of a Modal fiber. With the new innovations in the Modal fiber segment, Lenzing is again demonstrating the future prospects for innovators in the textile industry. „For Lenzing, ProModal® is an extremely important step since by further developing established products one can stimulate the market and offer innovative customers a competitive advantage over discounters. Every successful product – such as Lenzing Modal® - attracts copy-cats who wish to jump on the bandwagon of success without investing anything in market development and innovations. This is not the strategy that Lenzing pursues. We focus on further development and innovation even in a market which is as well established as the one for Modal fibers. ProModal® - a unique fiber blend
The ProModal® innovation combines the two branded fibers Lenzing Modal® and TENCEL®. Both fibers are well established in the textile market. Lenzing Modal® is used all over the world by numerous brand manufacturers and is employed to make textiles extremely soft and pleasant. The degree of fame enjoyed by Lenzing Modal® in the textile branch is extremely high. One can no longer imagine international collections without this fiber.
TENCEL® itself is well known as a natural fiber of performance and strength. The particularly good moisture absorption coupled with skin-sensitive properties make this special fiber attractive for many different applications such as Activewear, clothing for sensitive skin and home textiles such as bed wear.
Technology in use Thus the combination of these two fibers is vastly promising. ProModal® offers both softness and a high performance all in the same product. The special blending ratio and a TENCEL® fiber specially developed for this application make textiles of ProModal® unmistakable. In a blendomat specially calibrated for Lenzing, ProModal® is blended gram by gram. This guarantees a homogeneous blending ratio of the two fibers as well as an optimum quality. Lenzing is the only supplier of this fiber combination, since only Lenzing produces these two cellulose fibers.

ProModal® introduces new features
The new combi-fiber improves textiles. Thus an enhanced tear strength and bursting pressure can be determined following mercerization. Both of these parameters are important for processing. It is this superior quality that explains the special robustness of fabrics of ProModal®. The hand of ProModal® textiles has the accustomed softness but a greater volume. ProModal® is used in 100% form in knitwear and in blends with cotton. The goal is to conquer all the applications of Lenzing Modal® and emphasize new features in this textile application with ProModal®.

New marketing methods
A club has been established to help with the marketing of ProModal®. Licensed fabric manufacturers from all over the world are members of the ProModal® Club. A service for members offers extensive technical support with regard to the production of fabrics. An international team is on hand to help customers with questions pertaining to marketing and processing. ProModal® offers manufacturers a competitive advantage. The Club structure makes it possible to maintain an optimum Supply-Chain-Management and to actively support retailers and brands with the sourcing of ProModal®.
ProModal® is globally registered as a brand and a patent has been filed.

ProModal® for the sake of the environment
With ProModal®, as with every Lenzing fiber, you can feel Nature. The fiber blend is extracted from wood and numerous ecological aspects are taken into consideration. Lenzing fibers are – per se- an environmental alternative to cotton. During their production they have a much lower impact on the human environment than cotton. Thus the yield of ProModal® is approximately six times higher than that of cotton and the water consumption is 10-20 times lower.

Successful partnership
When it comes to ProModal®, Lenzing works with the yarn manufacturers Karsu Tekstil from Turkey and the Samil Spinning from Korea. The market is currently being developed in collaboration with these two customers. Together these two companies have established a ProModal® club structure which comprises a total of 35 ProModal® fabric manufacturers. In this way brands and retailers can be offered a wide range of fabrics.
