LENZING Technik > Engineering & Contracting > Environmental Technology > Waste Water Treatment

Waste Water Treatment

Features

For purification of wastewater from viscose, pulp and paper mills

  1. BOD degradation > 99 %
  2. COD degradation 92 %
  3. Biological purification process
  4. Zinc elimination by precipitation

In Detail

The process consists mainly of a pre-purification, a neutralization, a biological waste water purification first and second phase as well as of a flocculent filter.

Out of the production plant the waste water passes first through mechanical screen units and the neutralization process. The neutralized waste water is pumped into several pre-clarifieres where undissolved compounds are sedimented and removed. Due to special neutralization and flocculation procedure the Zinc is collected in the sediments out of pre-clarifier as well (precipitation).

After adding some chemicals the waste water stream it is pumped out of the pre-clarifiers to the activation tanks in which oxygen is blown into the tank and mixed intensively with the activated sludge (the first biological stage). Within this step a decomposition of easily degradable compounds by means of bacteria is done.

In the following intermediate clarification phase the sludge is separated and pumped back to activation tanks and later on de-watered by means of a two belt de-watering press.

The purified outflow from the first phase now flows to the second biological stage where similar procedures as mentioned above for the first stage takes place but with separate sludge system.

Out of the second treatment phase the purified water is pumped through a flocculent filter back to the river. This filter is a multi-layer sand filter to remove any solid particles.
