Functional principle

During the filtration phase, the backwash mechanism remains in standby mode. Filtration takes place from the inside to the outside.

Once a preset differential pressure is reached (or after a timer has elapsed), automatic backwashing is triggered. This reverses the flow direction on a very small part of the filter surface.

The highest flow velocity thus leads to efficient rinsing of the particles from the filter material. Filtration remains intact during this process.

The patented seal between the filtrate and reject chamber enables the lowest possible reject quantities.

FAQs and contact

Get personalized advice and contact us. The following FAQs will give you an initial insight into LENZING OptiFil expertise.

LENZING OptiFil requires only a flat, and therefore inexpensive, filter fabric. This is usually replaced only after several thousand backwashes and several months of operation.

The finest filter fabric we use has a mesh size of 5 µm and can filter hard or fibrous particles down to this size.

If the particles form a very fine-pored but still permeable filter cake, high separation can be achieved down to 1 µm.

For viscous liquids and the separation of gel particles, we use depth filter material down to 3 µm.

However, not every feed stream can be filtered with the finest filter medium. The respective limit is determined by the fluid and the type and quantity of solids.

Unlike most backwash filters available today, which originate from irrigation or cooling water filtration, the LENZING OptiFil was developed for the requirements of the chemical industry.

This results in

  • a wide range of different, corrosion-resistant materials,

  • a wide variety of seals, from simple lip seals to double-acting mechanical seals, and

  • years of experience with hazardous media.

Our LENZING OptiFil systems filter everything from simple cooling water and seawater to acids, alkalis, and highly flammable solvents, as well as food and municipal drinking water for our customers.

Throughputs depend heavily on the composition of the inflow and the required filter fineness.

Our largest filter currently achieves 700 m³/h, but only with low solids content and coarse filtration.

The finer the filtration and the higher the solids content, the lower the throughput per filter. In addition, parallel installations are used.

Larger filters are currently in the planning stage.
